Something that we wouldn’t normally do on Football in Berkshire, is publish an article that is effectively a big list of tweets. You can just go and look at Twitter for that.
But we’re going to break with protocol here as there’s been such a tidal wave of comments following the news that Binfield FC chairman Bob Bacon has decided to step down after over a decade in charge of the Isthmian League side.
Bob’s time in charge has seen huge progression in terms of facilities off the pitch, and similar on the pitch with Binfield earning national recognition as only the second Berkshire club ever to reach the FA Vase Final.
Tributes to Bob’s time as chairman have come far and wide, from BBC reporter Jack Winstanley, current managers Jamie McClurg and Carl Withers, former manager Roger Herridge as well as players and supporters from across the Non-League community.
Here, for posterity are some of our favourites. You can read the full statement on Bob’s departure on the Binfield FC website here.
Jack Winstanley
Very few can match the impact Bob’s had on local football, he’s simply a legend.

For me, being able to share his and the club’s experience on @Binfieldfc’s run to Wembley last year was an honour I’ll never forget.

Steve Nebbett
Former Binfield midfielder Steve Nebbett wrote: “Bob Bacon is one of the nicest men you are ever likely to meet. Honoured to call him my friend and loved seeing him at the footy and having a laugh with him. Top chairman to play for and I hope this rest recharges his batteries and we see him back soon.”
