Binfield to Bondi challenge smashes fundraising total

Moles raise over £2,000 for CRY UK

At the beginning of the second UK lockdown, Binfield Football Clubs coaches came up with a challenge to keep the clubs players fit and enthusiastic, as well as raise money for the clubs charity CRY UK.

The challenge included all levels of the Moles age groups, as well as the first team who all contributed to a mileage that totalled a trip to Bondi Beach and back from Binfield.

At the time of writing, a target of £1,000 for Cardiac Risk in the Young had been smashed with £2,260 raised for the charity.

Moles chairman Bob Bacon said: “Amazing news this week, not only did we make it to Bondi, with more great efforts this week, we’ve now also made it back to Binfield, just in time for lockdown to end!

“When we set up the #BinfieldXBondi challenge at the start of lockdown, we set ourselves two big targets, running 10,584 miles to Bondi as well as raising £1,000 for CRY, our chosen charity.  We have more than doubled both!  This has only been possible as a result of the huge efforts from everyone associated with the Binfield FC family and we would like to thank you all for your efforts and generosity.

If any proof were required by the doubters, please see the attached photo evidence of the first Binfield FC shirt to arrive on Bondi Beach.

“As of today, Sunday 29th November, we have run a combined total of 21,519.57 miles and our fundraising total stands at £2210.  Any final donations will be greatly received as we draw this all to a close on Wednesday 2nd December.

“As our attention now turns to football, we hope the challenge has helped (just a little) for people to get through the lockdown period, that everyone has kept fit and healthy and that we can continue in the great club spirit we have shown as the season gets back underway.

“We look forward to seeing you all soon at Hill Farm Lane.”
