Non league football in the UK might have come to a juddering halt in November, but over in The Gambia, the club we know as the Gambian Sumas are competing in the annual under 15 West Coast Region Football Academy Association Championship.
The club, Junction BA Football Academy regularly receives old kit from Berkshire side Wokingham & Emmbrook thanks to a link setup by Anne Laleman six years ago and the two teams regularly share correspondence. You can read more on the link here.
Wokingham chairman Steve Williams filed an update saying: “Although we are unable to play football for at least a month, I am happy to report that our Gambia Sumas are still playing and their U15s recently won a home game v local side Daboe and Ceesay FC. The final score was 2-1.”
The clubs under 15 team is in group B of the tournament with SYFA, Kaira FA, Darboe and Ceesay and Soccer Boys.
At the end of October they were beaten in the group by Soccer Boys 1-0 but now face two more home games with the top side in the group earning automatic qualification to the main championship in Brikama – one of the largest cities in the country.
Good luck to the Gambian Sumas in their next matches.
