It’s all change at Binfield off the pitch after the Moles confirmed long serving manager Roger Herridge had stepped down at Hill Farm Lane.

In his place, Carl Withers and Jamie McClurg have been appointed to the dugout after a successful season on the pitch for the club.

McClurg, speaking to our Berkshire Football Stories podcast said following the duo’s appointment: “I want to push Binfield as far as we can go, I think the club – Rob Challis and Bob Bacon – are really backing us to do that and I think you could see that on the pitch.

“There is no limits to what we can do, you just have and prep right, bring the right people in and enjoy it while you’re doing it, everyone did and I think that’s why we were on the road to success this year.”

Also on the podcast, McClurg talked about playing and working alongside Withers, the influence of his uncle, Steve McClurg, who was a successful manager himself at Bracknell Town and Finchampstead as well as some of his career highlights which included a play off winning goal for Slough Town.

Binfield statement

Moles chairman Bob Bacon – in a statement you can read in full on the Binfield website here – said of the departing Herridge: “The whole club is appreciative of everything that Roger has done and how he has gone about his business within the club. He has always been a credit to himself and the club.  Thank you for all of your endeavours.  The club would also like to extend its thanks to coach Rob Wytchard who is also stepping down.”

Bacon added that the change was one that the club had been preparing for behind the scenes: “Whilst we are saddened that Roger has made this decision, it is something that we have been preparing for from the start of the season and opens the door for Carl Withers and Jamie McClurg to take sole control of all team affairs.  The influence of both Carl and Jamie to the team this season both on and off the pitch, has been highly visible from the beginning and critical to the success of the season. They have established a strong foundation for the forthcoming season.”
