It might have been a disappointing afternoon on the pitch for Bracknell Town on Saturday in the FA Vase, but on it the clubs supporters and visiting fans from Marske United helped Victoria Gater raise £347.36 toward fighting breast cervical and ovarian cancer.
Victoria – mother to Robins defender Joe will, along with friend Claire Ford cycle 100k through the night in May from Windsor to Buckingham Palace and back as part of the Women V Cancer – Ride the Night event.
On the night 4,000 women will light up London in pink and the duo were given permission by the club to hold the collection during the game at a packed out Larges Lane. Victoria said: “Last year I asked a very special friend to Ride the Night with me in honour of our friends and family who had fought or were fighting cancer. We met some of the bravest, funniest and craziest women ever. All brought together in a positive way to recognise the challenges, and to shine a big bright pink light on their fight and to honour them. It was emotional and challenging but covered in pink glitter and fluffy glam in a way only women can. Laughter through tears.
“This year Claire Ford and I will take the challenge again to Ride 100km from Windsor to Buckingham palace and back.”
