‘We have created history’ says Bobby Wilkinson

The Bracknell boss reveals goalkeeper Mark Scott may not be the only departure this summer

Goalkeeper Mark Scott’s departure from Bracknell Town came as no real surprise as even he admits himself, there is no way Michael Eacott could be dropped due to his remarkable record of clean sheets.

Scott started the season as the Robins’ No. 1 but an injury in the FA Cup tie against Burgess Hill in early September led to manager Bobby Wilkinson bringing in Eacott, who had impressed him when playing for Sutton Common Rovers against his side in their first home league game of the season.

And Scotty may not be the only Robin to be leaving the nest.

“I think one or two others will be looking to go somewhere else,” admits Wilkinson. “But, of course, we will be looking in new players, maybe three or four at the least.

“I won’t be standing still, if I don’t bring some in players we could end up getting stale next season, and I don’t want that to happen.”

Scott was at Bracknell’s final game of the season, the 1-1 draw at Bedfont Sports, where Town conceded only their 12th league goal in 36 South Central Division games.
It is a remarkable achievement that has left a proud Wilkinson singing his side’s praises.

“We have created history. It’s the best defensive record in Europe” he said.

“We kept 24 clean sheets and of the 12 goals we conceded five were penalties and two were own goals. I can’t believe what this group has achieved and when I talk about it I get very emotional. I am flabbergasted by what they have done.

“We are the best team in Europe defensively and I firmly believe what we have achieved will never be beaten.”

He continued: “The boys have smashed record after record this season.

To remain unbeaten away in the league is incredible and we had the championship tied up several weeks ago. None of the other teams could get near us. We blew them all away.

“At the start of the season I told all the boys what I wanted; I expected to cruise the league, I expected us to dominate teams. We have done all that, but I didn’t expect to do it in the manner we did. Conceding just 12 goals is incredible. I doubt if it will ever be bettered at our level of football.”

Wilkinson continued: “This football club has done the town of Bracknell proud and I hope our achievements will get the recognition they deserve.”
