Former Wokingham & Emmbrook manager Dan Bateman has said the club is in an incredible position despite his and joint manager Matt Eggleston’s decisions to step down.
The duo lead the Sumas to promotion in the summer, in no small part to two seasons of consistency, which was how the National League System (NLS) committee decided which clubs to raise up to step 5 following the creation of two new divisions.
Bateman and Eggleston returned to the first-team role in the summer of 2017 having taken a year away after managing the club between 2013 and 2016 when they also lead the Sumas to promotion from step 6.
Writing on social media after news of the departure had gone out, Bateman said: “The time is right for a change. The club is in an incredible position to push on and unfortunately, we just haven’t got the time the club deserves. They are a fantastic squad and will be a welcome addition to Step 5 and I look forward to supporting the lads.”
Wokingham will play in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division North in 2021/22 and kick-off their season with a trip to Easington Sports in the Extrea Preliminary Round of the FA Cup on August 7th before bringing Tadley Calleva to Lowther Road on the 10th.
