It might have been a frustrating evening for all concerned after Monday nights Woodley United vs Bracknell Town Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division fixture was postponed, but the Kestrels have at least another eight home games to contend with before the season is out.
The match at Scours Lane was called off by the referee around forty minutes before kick off with one of the goal mouths deemed unplayable.
Including the rearranged Bracknell fixture, James Anderson’s side have seven home league games and one away day at Longlevens in which to earn enough points to ensure survival in their first ever season at step 5.
According to the clubs landlords Highmoor Ibis, a lot of work went in to trying to get Monday nights game on, but the ground has suffered substantially with the wet weather making the pitch unplayable, not to mention failing floodlights this season meaning that both clubs have between them at least 15 games including cup ties still to play at the ground.
‘The lights in the changing rooms don’t work, the showers are cold and the heating is never on!’
We spoke to Woodley boss Anderson about the situation: “Yes, seven games left which for us to get nine points from so we’re up against it! It will certainly help us being at home as Scours Lane isn’t a nice place for anyone to come. The lights in the changing rooms don’t work, the showers are cold and the heating is never on!
“Given the fixtures are being moved around a lot due to the weather we’re only looking at the next fixture and not getting looking beyond that. We’ve got Ascot this Saturday which will be a tough game as they are battling for points like us. However, we know how good we are and that our ability hasn’t been reflected in the amount of points we’ve won, so we’re just going to turn up and do our thing and hopefully finish the afternoon with 3 points!
“Last night was frustrating as all the players were there and wanting to play the game. Unfortunately the ref thought the pitch was too wet so called it off at the last minute. It’s always frustrating when a ref makes a decision which you don’t agree with but just like during a game I knew there was no changing his mind so we just accepted it.”
United are 19th of 20 in the Premier Division but are just four points off 16th placed Fairford Town and guaranteed safety.
