It is looking increasingly likely that several teams up and down the country will be unable to finish the season by the April 22nd cut off.

In Berkshire, Sandhurst Town’s latest rain affected postponement on Tuesday night means the Fizzers still have 11 games to play in the Combined Counties League Division One.

To rub salt into the wound, Sandhurst Town should be favourites for the division title but they have an ever increasing number of games and fewer and fewer days to complete them.

Update: Combined Counties League statement on the end of the 2022/23 season

There are a number of reasons why a weather affected season will no longer be extended – crucially the new end of season play-offs, and that is discussed here.

Football in Berkshire asked a Football Association spokesperson what would happen if a team couldn’t compete their fixtures: “As guidance, this season’s end date was confirmed in July 2022, and leagues were actively encouraged to plan ahead for the possibility of fixture postponements due to inclement weather. It’s necessary for fixtures to be completed by 22 April as play-offs are scheduled for the weekend after and the club allocations process for next season must be completed in May 2023.”

When pressed on a team unable to complete fixtures, they said: “As further guidance, that would be a matter for the respective leagues, so please contact them in the first instance.”

So there we go.
