April 1st. You almost had us. And we’re not talking entirely about Adebayo Akinfenwa’s decision to follow in his former boss Gareth Ainsworth’s footsteps and turn out for Woodley United.
While certain members of the Football in Berkshire team were double checking the Kestrels registered players on full-time, it was Bracknell Town’s announcement that chairman Andy Hunt had returned the stewardship of the club to the SB Group after less than a year.

Mitchell Parker among deadline day signings as AFC Wimbledon youngster joins BinfieldUsually it’s the announcement of a Berkshire representative side (you’re welcome), Messi signing for Holyport (although they appear to have the next best thing in Mitch Parker on the books) or that time Datchet revealed they were to build a new 5,000 capacity stadium on a local Facebook page.
It soon turned out that the news wasn’t a late April Fool, but in fact true, as former chairman Kayne Steinborn-Busse revealed on social media – quickly followed by the announcement of a return for former boss Bobby Wilkinson.
What about Akinfenwa though? Well the real clue in that one was that it was posted after midday – traditionally the cut off time for April Fool’s pranks – but that simple fact eluded at least one of us.
