West Berkshire side Thatcham Town have received news of the clubs appeal against being moved from the Isthmian League to the Southern League.

The Kingfishers have confirmed the FA have declined the clubs appeal.

A short statement released on social media revealed the appeal had failed: “We have received the decision on our appeal regarding the lateral move to the Southern League

“Unfortunately our appeal was unsuccessful.

“The club will meet to discuss an action plan for next season. A full statement will be released next week.”

In May, Thatcham chairman Paul Ayres released a statement to Football in Berkshire saying the move would have ‘serious negative consequences for us’ – a place in the Southern League was previously the club’s undoing back in 2014 when it took voluntary demotion to the Hellenic League.

The move means the West Berkshire side switch Step 4 derbies with Ascot United and Binfield for trips to Devon and Cornwall sides like Falmouth Town, Mousehole and Exmouth Town.
