Thatcham Town boss Yashwa Romeo won’t be following the usual football superstitions despite Thatcham Town winning 3-1 away at Sutton Common Rovers on Saturday in Sports Direct socks.

The Kingfishers had to head ‘into town’ to source a new set of football socks after several were found to be missing from the kit bag on arrival at Whyteleafe Sports Centre.

A win in such a situation would usually see the team stick with a successful formula, but on this occasion Romeo was adamant, saying: “We won’t be keeping the socks as they’ll remind me of the turmoil!”

Explaining the situation, the Blues boss said: “Just one of those days where everything goes wrong. We forgot two or three pairs, so we had to buy a full set. We had a player break down and a couple of people turn up at 2:20pm because they went to the wrong ground, so to say I wasn’t best pleased in an understatement.”

Thankfully Thatcham went on to win the game 3-1 with goals from Mo Ceesay (2) and David Nyarko meaning the Blues have now won three and drawn two of their last five Isthmian League games.

Next up, Thatcham host Chipstead at Waterside Park on Saturday 16th December. Forthcoming Thatcham fixtures are here.
