A quick bit of FA Sunday Cup history

The FA Sunday Cup was founded in 1964 after the FA allowed Sunday football clubs and players to register with their County Associations.

However the competition started four years earlier before it was an ‘official’ FA competition with Walsall Waflers beating Stamford Rovers 2-0.

The current holders St Joseph’s (Luton) can reasonably be described as the competitions most successful having appeared in seven finals, winning three. The team with the most wins though are Hetton Lyons Cricket Club – appearing in and winning all four finals, most recently in 2012 when they beat Canada 5-1.

Berkshire’s most successful representative would be Theale in West Berkshire who won the 1991/92 final beating Marston Sports 3-2 at Elm Park.

Berkshire sides in FA Sunday Cup First Round action:

  • Frimley Green (Sunday) v Burghfield
  • Clapham Rovers v Singh Sabha Slough
  • FC BAPCO v The Village Inn (Alfred Davis Memorial Ground – Marlow FC)

Kick offs are 2pm.
