It was a dream night for Reading FC Women’s number one Grace Moloney as the Republic of Ireland qualified for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Moloney – an unused substitute on the night – and new Royals teammate Diane Caldwell – who played 90 minutes – will most likely be part of the squad next summer after Ireland beat Scotland 1-0 in the qualifying play-off.

Moloney simply tweeted after the game: “OH MY GOD”.

It wasn’t all joyous celebrations for Moloney and Caldwell’s Royals teammates, Reading captain Emma Mukandi was on the bench for Scotland while the club’s Welsh contingent heartbreakingly lost out in qualification to Switzerland 2-1.

Gemma Evans, Lily Woodham, Bethan Roberts and Rachel Rowe were part of the Welsh side that went so close with Roberts scoring the opening goal on the night.
