Hellenic League Windsor step up search for new manager

Royalists on the look out after long serving boss Mick Woodham stepped down

Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Windsor are stepping up the search for a new manager.

The Royalists saw long-serving manager Mick Woodham depart after two games of the fledgling 2019/20 season and have placed former captain Luke Brooks-Smith in interim charge, though the 30-year-old has ruled himself out of the running for the role.

Speaking to Football in Berkshire, club secretary Dan Birchmore said: “We are seeking to appoint a permanent first team manager and welcome applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals.

“Those interested should apply in writing, enclosing a CV via email to secretary@windsorfc.net. Applications will close at 5pm on Friday 16th August.

“As communicated prior we are extremely grateful and delighted that Luke Brooks-Smith has agreed to take the reins and will step into the role of interim manager so as to give the club the chance to identify and select the right person(s) to join our wonderful club.”

Windsor suffered a third defeat of the season on Saturday when they were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup at the Preliminary Round stage on by Reading City at Stag Meadow.

Speaking to the Windsor Observer on Monday, Brooks-Smith said: “I know that applications are now being received so, probably in the next week or two, there will be interviews and the next stages happening. I’m just taking control until someone comes in and takes it on permanently.

“It’s a difficult position because I don’t want to bring in new people and then a new manager comes in that potential brings a host of players with him.”
