Only three games involving local Step 6 sides survived the weather at the weekend as rain forced a host of postponements across non-league football.

One of the games to be played saw Sandhurst Town make the short trip to face Ash United in the Combined Counties League Division One. By the midway point of the first half two goals from top scorer Charlie Oakley put the Fizzers in control of the match, but a spectacular effort got the home side back into the match before half time.

In the second half Ash grabbed an equaliser but they were not level for long as Mitch Cooper popped up at a corner to score the winner for Sandhurst. It was not all good news however as after the match the Fizzers confirmed that Greg Beckett, who had left the field with what looked like a serious injury, had sustained a broken leg. The player was due to have two operations on Monday and now faces an extended period on the side-lines.

In the Hellenic League Division One East Woodley United endured a tough afternoon going down 5-1 in their trip to league leaders Burnham. Despite what the score line suggests, the Kestrels put in a good performance, but free scoring Burnham were clinical in front of goal and ended the first half 2-0 up.

In the second half both sides continued to play positively but it was still the host ruthlessness in front of goal that put them apart, and they added three more goals before Ed Thomas grabbed a consolation goal for Woodley.

Wallingford vs Thame Rangers

Wallingford Town hosted the leagues only undefeated side, Thame Rangers (that record has since disappeared), at the Wallingford Sports Ground.

Despite having the better of the game, Wally could not make their advantage count and Thame were able to take the lead just before half time and they doubled their advantage after an hour. Charlie Silkstone got one back with a strike on 65 minutes, but Wallingford were unable to find an equaliser.

Eversley & California’s league match at Kensington Borough and Wokingham & Emmbrook’s Reading Senior Cup match at Burghfield were both postponed due to the rain. AFC Aldermaston’s Challenge Cup match at Cheltenham Saracens was cancelled due to the Atom Men not being able to raise a side, with Cheltenham being awarded the win.
