The Uhlsport Hellenic League CEO Brian King has released a statement on matters arising from the current season as well as an update on the situation for the 2018/19 season which will undoubtedly be on us before we know it.
The statement on the Hellenic League website which – you can read in full here – covers the weather that has badly hit the competition this season as well as the likely promotions and relegation’s arising from the Football Association’s restructuring.
In terms of this seasons fixture backlog which was caused in no small part by the awful winter weather, Mr King says: “The weather from November through to March was a major frustration to all concerned and although there were some clubs that felt hard done by and that an extension should have been made to the league playing season.
“Thankfully those clubs were in the minority with the majority of member clubs accepting the weather interference and worked with League Officers to ensure they met the UHL completion date.”
He adds: “If member clubs have positive thoughts on how we are better able to manage the seasons program I would be pleased to have your views.”

The matter of the FA granting an additional extension in to May for all leagues – which would have avoided Lydney Town playing five times in eight days and Woodley United four isn’t covered by the post.
Promotion and relegation
In terms of promotion and relegation, the release congratulates Thatcham Town and Bracknell Town for their likely promotion. The use of the word ‘likely’ is fair as while both clubs should go up according the rules set out by the FA at the start of the season, you only ever really know for sure when the league constitutions are ratified in the summer.
The release does add some meat to the bones of what we were able to piece together last week surrounding what happens to Division 1 clubs not meeting the new FA ground grading criteria.
Of particular interest is this line on Wokingham & Emmbrook and what division they might be in next season. It says: “Wokingham & Emmbrook Football Club has been granted Planning Approval for all aspects to attain Step 6 compliance. Club are attaining funds needed but works are unlikely to be completed for the start of season 2018-2019. Full details have been passed to the FA to review and consider.”
Wokingham chairman Steve Williams has previously stated to Football in Bracknell that the Sumas will make an announcement when the season is concluded.
