Binfield FC top Hellenic Premier but Burham and Henley Town remain pointless

Jamie Connor’s special thirty yard solitary goal earned Binfield a 1-0 victory over Royal Wootton Bassett Town and made it four wins from four matches as the Moles moved to the head of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division table.

The match was scoreless at half time with chances few and far between on a blustery day and it was much the same in the second half as the home side battled very well despite the entire first team management quitting on Thursday and with several players making themselves unavailable.

It looked like it might take something special to settle the match and that proved to be the case in the 49th minute when Connor took possession just inside the Bassett half, moved forward and fired in a low and powerful drive which found the bottom left hand corner.

It was Binfield’s only shot on target but what a fantastic effort it was.

Elsewhere

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Thatcham Town defeated Henley Town 2-1 courtesy of a pair of first half Shane Cooper-Clark goals.

His first was in the 39th minute and although he saw his penalty saved just before the break, he fired home the rebound.

Chris Nelson pulled a goal back in the second period but the Kingfishers hung on to leave the Red Kites still without a point.

Lydney Town beat Burnham 4-1 which sees Burnham below Henley by virtue of a worse goal difference and there are unconfirmed rumours that Dave Tuttle has resigned as manager of Burnham.

The only other Premier Division match saw Brackley Town Saints and Oxford City Nomads play out a 0-0 draw. We hope it was more entertaining than it sounds.

The full Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division results from today:

Brackley Town Saints 0 – 0 Oxford City Nomads
Lydney Town 4 – 1 Burnham
Royal Wootton Bassett Town 0 – 1 Binfield
Thatcham Town 2 – 1 Henley Town
