Could Berkshire clubs be set for an FA Cup windfall?

Ascot United, Bracknell Town, Binfield and all our East Berkshire FA Cup entrants could be set for a cash windfall according to a report on the Non-League Paper website.

The 2016/17 tournament heads into the 3rd Round at the weekend, and there has been much gnashing of teeth on social media around the lack of television coverage given to the remaining non-league sides in the competition which include Sutton United and Stourbridge.

According to the NLP: “The proposed plans would see the FA live broadcast fee removed with that cash being put into the overall prize fund, which would subsequently bump up the payments for winning a game in each round.

“The change, if approved, would mean more cash going to lower league clubs at the start of the competition as they battle through the qualifying rounds.

“The FA recently agreed to a new six-year deal worth £820million for the FA Cup’s overseas broadcast rights and the governing body plan to use some of that cash to increase their competition’s prize fund.”
