It’s barely hours since Ascot United released a statement confirming the resignation of managers Jeff Lamb and Paul McGrotty, but we thought we’d have a quick look and see who might be in the running for the Yellaseat.
The United statement suggested an announcement ‘very soon’ – and we know the club had been aware of the impending resignation for some time so you would expect a replacement to have been identified.
The following list is purely speculative (believe us we’ve tried to find out!).
Jamie Tompkins
United have a history of promoting from within and Development Team manager Tomkins would be the obvious choice.
Will know a number of the younger players like Louie Gilpin and James Goodey in the first team squad and has overseen United’s rise to fourth in the Suburban Football League Central Division.
Jon Palmer
The former Lewes, Bracknell Town and Godalming Town striker has good contacts across the area having played locally for many years – and is a former player and team-mate of current Slough Town joint managers Neil Baker and Jon Underwood.
Is also one of the older players on the United roster and might fancy a go at management.
Ady Milne
Currently manager of the clubs Allied Counties side and would represent a positive internal appointment. Is a UEFA coach and manager of Phoenix Football Academy.

Shelley Strange
Head coach of the Ascot United Allied Counties side and coach for FA WSL1 side Reading Women as well as a scout for the women’s national team.
Like Tomkins and Milne, will know the younger players in the club and has part 1 of the UEFA A Licence.
Rob Saunders
There’d never be a dull moment.

Dave Tuttle
The former Tottenham Hotspur defender has managed nearly all the local clubs and was most recently with Burnham who were relegated to the Hellenic Premier in the Summer. Has won promotion in the past from Divsion 1 East with Henley Town.
Tore Andre Flo
Ex-Chelsea and Norway forward who lives/lived (we told you this was speculative) in Ascot. Runs a football academy in the area and is anecdotally (I.E. we heard but can’t confirm) known to have been at United.
