To add to TC’s earlier list where he picked Adam Cornell, Luke Hayden and Michael Herbert as his stars of 2016, I’ve given it a thought and like him I’ve also picked three people.
It’s no secret that the two teams I’ve watched most in 2016 have been Bracknell Town by a long way followed by Binfield so it’s natural that my selection includes a player from both clubs.
It’s a tired cliché but mean defences ensure you won’t lose games but goals win you matches and it’s usually strikers who get those so I’ve plumped for two of those.
My other choice was a person I have yet to meet from a team I have yet to watch but he’s someone I admire for what he’s done and I will definitely get along soon to take in an Atomics match.
TJ Bohane – Bracknell Town
If Adam Cornell’s 29 goals in 30 matches so far this term is impressive then strike partner Bohane’s 26 goals from 24 matches is just as good.
Since joining the Robins in August, TJ has averaged over a goal per match with 25 from 22 appearances.I believe its three hat-tricks this season and three times where he has scored a brace.
A proven scorer in this league, Bohane and Cornell’s goal have propelled Bracknell top of the table and few would bet against them winning the division.
Liam Ferdinand – Binfield
Another striker deadly in front of the target, Ferdinand has 23 goals in 25 matches which is a phenomenal record.
With the burden of scoring for the Moles – no other Binfield player has scored more than seven times – so good leadership and work ethic qualities also shown.
In fact, there were 17 goals for Ferdinand between 1st January 2016 and the end of the season so it’s an incredible 41 goals this calendar year.
Kieran Jennings – AFC Aldermaston
Finishing seventh in the Thames Valley Football League but getting promoted as their ground met the required facilities, AFC Aldermaston could have been apprehensive about entering Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One East.
Manager Jennings however has overseen a great start to life in the league and they are currently fourth above more established step six local sides Finchampstead, Sandhurst Town and Wokingham & Emmbrook.
Keeping the core of the squad, Jennings has bought former Bracknell Town goalkeeper Dan Smith who has started 17 matches and striker Craig Masterton and has steered his team to a more than acceptable way to end 2016.
