Dan Bateman is back in the hot seat at Wokingham & Emmbrook after a year out and was featured on the back page of last weeks Wokingham Paper.

The new manager will begin his second spell in charge almost back where he started after guiding the Sumas to promotion from Hellenic League Division 1 East and Reading Senior Cup glory alongside co-manager Matt Eggleston.

The Sumas battled valiantly in Division 1 East last seasons under Clive McNelly – the superb 4-3 win over then unbeaten Woodley United stands out as well as a Senior Cup semi final appearance against neighbours Bracknell Town.

Speaking to the Wokingham Paper – the full interview can be found on their site here: “I’m really looking forward to it,”

“My intention was always that I wanted to take a year off. The last year in the Premier Division was very difficult and left me a little bit drained.

“I told the club that I wanted a year off, but there were no guarantees that the job would be there for me after a year.”

In the interview, Bateman says he hasn’t yet set any aspirations for the season but said: “I would be very disappointed if I couldn’t put a side together that was competitive in the top echelons of the league.”
