George Lock departs Ascot United after 322 appearances

'Remarkable servant' George Lock leaves the Yellas

After over 300 appearances including an FA Vase Cup Final win, George Lock departed Ascot United after Tuesday nights Isthmian League Cup fixture against Binfield.

A statement released on social media by the club said: “After last night’s disappointing result, we had the difficult task of confirming that George Lock will be moving on from Ascot United.

“A remarkable servant with a club record 322 appearances and an FA Vase win, George has been an outstanding ambassador for this club in every sense.

“He still has plenty to offer, and leaves with our heartfelt thanks and respect. He will always be welcome home.”

Lock came through the ranks at Bracknell Town before moving on for a brief spell at Binfield, eventually settling in for a glittering spell at Ascot under Jamie Tompkins where he won the Hellenic League Cup, the Combined Counties League Premier Division title and of course the FA Vase.

The full-back joined Ascot in September 2017 having joined Binfield that summer after 10 years with Bracknell.

Awarded the captaincy for his final game as a Yella, Lock’s side were beaten by last season’s Velocity Cup semi-finalists Binfield 3-1.

Amari Fashanu opened the scoring for Binfield before Luis Le Paih levelled, but a double for Kicki Dzimba after half-time saw the Moles through.
