Binfield took all three points at home in the Isthmian League South Central Division One on Saturday as play-off challengers Raynes Park Vales winning run was ended.
It’s been a relatively lean season for Moles striker Tyler D’Cruz but his sixth of the season and first since 17th December set Binfield off to a valuable three points at Hill Farm Lane.
Rahzir Smith-Jones has been the man amongst the goals for the Moles this season and he followed up D’Cruz’s 18th minute opener with one of his own on 33 minutes to give Binfield a 2-0 lead.
Raynes Park Vale are eighth in the division and four points outside the play-offs, so might have been expecting a slightly easier ride against 15th placed Binfield, and pulled one back on 70 minutes but were unable to reduce the deficit any further.
A tougher test awaits Binfield on Tuesday when they travel to Isthmian League Premier Division leaders Billericay Town hoping to cause a cupset and reach the Velocity Trophy Final.
Elsewhere in Division One, play-off hopefuls Ascot United suffered a surprise 3-0 defeat at 10th placed Leatherhead.
The Yellas should have enough points on the board to secure a spot in the end of season shake up, but most teams around them have enough games in hand to make it a nervy run-in.
