Sandhurst Town edged closer to a dream top three finish after stunning promotion chasing Virginia Water in a heated Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East encounter at Stag Meadow on Tuesday night.

The Fizzers led 2-0 at half time through Connor Harlowe and Jono Malone while Charlie Oakley put the game out of reach in the second half. Tensions came to the boil with 20 minutes to go when substitute Jake Baker was sent off for Virginia Water.

Windsor Observer football reporter Robert Stevens was watching the game and reported on our Football in Berkshire facebook group: “The match reached boiling point in the second half when Waters sub Jake Baker was sent off for appearing to lean into an opponent with his head. Sandhurst were fortunate not to have a player dismissed in the melee.”

The result mean Luke Turkington’s side are a point behind their hosts though they have played a game more and three behind second placed Penn & Tylers Green in the division.

Elsewhere AFC Aldermaston advanced in the Bluefin Sport Supplementary Cup after beating Chalfont Wasps 2-1 at the Rec Soc. Kieran Jennings side will play Flackwell Heath in the next round.

Duds has done a full round up of the remaining midweek fixtures which includes a long trip for Binfield here.
