One Bracknell Sunday League game survives the weather

Just one game survived the weather in the Bracknell Town & District Sunday League at the weekend and depending on which side of the 8-1 scoreline you were on, it was either one to remember or one to forget.

The match was a Division 1 tie at St Crispin’s School in Wokingham between Hurricanes and AFC Crowthorne which saw the visitors came away from with an 8-1 victory.

New Crowthorne signing Dean Sharp scored four times on his debut – seeing him make the ‘most goals in a match leaderboard‘ – while Jason Ellary scored twice to make it 16 for the season while Luke Openshaw and John Mulholland got the others.

Speaking about how the match went ahead, Crowthorne’s Doug King said: “Apart from the odd player crying his eyes out about the cold, the pitch was not in too bad a condition to be fair. It held up until about 10 mins to go and started to cut up through the middle. There was a little standing snow on the flanks, the odd igloo, penguin.. but given the weather, it didn’t play too badly. We’ve definitely played on worse!”

Elsewhere you have to feel for Ashridge Park who admitted defeat in getting a team out to their opponents Winkfield in plenty of time on Friday – handing their opponents the points, only to see heavy snowfall on Saturday night decimate the Sunday League programme.
