Pagliaroli penalty helps Binfield overcome significant hurdles at Tuffley Rovers

Ascot United beaten at Longlevens

Brad Pagliaroli fired a 72nd minute penalty as Binfield won 3-2 at Tuffley Rovers in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division, overcoming a series of not insignificant hurdles at Glevum Park.

Manager Roger Herridge had said in midweek that he was expecting to have several senior players missing for the Gloucestershire trip but wouldn’t have reckoned with a delayed kick off due to M4 roadworks and the Moles kit not arriving at all.

Herridge’s side played in Tuffley’s third kit after the traditional all red strip was caught up in the roadworks between junction 12 and 13 and started fastest with Ian Davies converting Jack Thompson-Wheeler’s cross but Rovers hit back to lead 2-1 before Will Shaw levelled in a frantic opening 26 minutes.

Carlo Santoro had replaced Joe Gritt in the publicised Binfield starting line up while Herridge gave a debut to 17-year-old Allied Counties players Jamie Griggs and the Moles took the three points when Pagliaroli fired home from 12 yards.

Ascot United had a long trip themselves to Longlevens but were unable to build on Wednesday’s confidence boosting performance, suffering a 2-0 defeat and picking up five yellow cards while Woodley United were beaten 1-0 at Scours Lane by Fairford Town.

Over at Stag Meadow, it took 84 minutes before Windsor were able to break the deadlock against struggling Burnham and it came through a touch of class from Barry Hayles who evaded a challenge to fire home before setting up substitute Ricardo Cannon for the second goal of the afternoon.

In Division 1 East AFC Aldermaston won 1-0 at Chalfont Wasps courtesy of a 75th minute Dan Alliston goal but Wokingham & Emmbrook were on the end of a 1-0 home defeat to Wallingford Town.

In the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy, Sandhurst Town lost 4-3 at Chalvey Sports who ground share with Slough Town. Freddie Barron, Richard Hughes and Charlie Oakley scored the Fizzers goals.
