Hungerford Town boss Danny Robinson has reshuffled his squad with several eye-catching signings including a former Premier League star.
Hungerford-born Austin played in the Premier League for the likes of Southampton and Queens Park Rangers after beginning his senior career with Kintbury Rangers.
The 36-year-old forward worked his way up the divisions, playing for Hungerford in 2007 before heading to Thatcham Town, Poole Town, Swindon Town and Burnley, where he joined QPR for an undisclosed fee.
Most recently, the striker has been with Basingstoke Town and AFC Totton after a spell in Australia with Brisbane Roar.
A statement on the club website said: “Charlie first graced the Bulpit turf back in 07/08, and since then, his journey has taken him to the very top of English football. From non-league beginnings to Premier League goals, Charlie’s career has been nothing short of inspirational.
“Now, he’s back in his hometown, bringing with him a wealth of experience, passion, and leadership that will be invaluable both on and off the pitch.
“Welcome home, Charlie. We can’t wait to see you back in Hungerford colours, lighting up Bulpit Lane once again.”
The move is the latest in a reshuffle of manager Danny Robinson’s pack with the club in 16th of 22 in the division. The Crusaders started the season strongly and were in sixth after eight games, but a run of results since the 0-0 draw with Poole has seen the side drop down the table.
Robinson recently confirmed the club had signed Reegan Messenger from Evesham United as well as the loan signings of goalkeeper Jenson Kilroy from Walsall and Maximilian Gryncewicz from Barnsley.
It has been confirmed that forward James Ollis has departed the club after 17 games and five goals.
