Ascot United remain the final team flying the Berkshire flag in the Isuzu FA Trophy as fellow Isthmian sides Binfield and Thatcham Town excited the competition at the First Round Qualifying.
Ascot will face fellow Isthmian League opponents, Margate, who ply their trade in the South East Division. The Kent based side come with a glittering array of cup appearances having reached the Third Round Proper of the FA Cup on two occasions with the second of those ties played against Premier League outfit, Tottenham Hotspur. As well as being quarter finalists in the 2001/2 season before a narrow 2-1 defeat to Morecambe saw them exit.
Margate have competed in every single FA Trophy since its inauguration in 1969, including the eight years they played under the name of Thanet United from 1981 to 1989 before reverting back to Margate. Meanwhile, Ascot entered the competition for the first time in their history last season, 2023/24, after promotion saw them triumph in the league and the FA Vase in the same year. They reached the Third Round Qualifying.
The last Berkshire side to face Margate was Slough Town who knocked them out in the First Round Qualifying with goals from Jamie McClurg and Scott Harris. Incidentally, Margate have never beaten Slough having faced them three times in the competition.
The Yellas will welcome Margate to The Racecourse on Saturday 21st of September.
