Bracknell Town and Hungerford Town will welcome a few old foes and a few new faces into their division for the 2024/25 season.

It’s all change in the Southern League as the Berkshire clubs wave goodbye to Hendon (lateral move to Isthmian League), Chesham United (promoted), Salisbury Town (promoted), Beaconsfield Town (relegated), Hayes & Yeading (relegated), Harrow Borough (relegated) and Didcot Town (relegated).

The new clubs joining the Robins and Crusaders in the Southern League Premier South are Chertsey Town, Frome Town, Marlow, Wimborne Town, Havant & Waterlooville, Gloucester City and Taunton Town

The Buckinghamshire-based club will be a familiar foe for Bracknell Town with the two clubs having faced off against each other numerous times in the Berks & Bucks Cup and league action in recent seasons. The two clubs have shared multiple players over the years with Marlow fielding ex-Robins Ben Mulley and the prolific Dave Tarpey in their playoff final win vs Leatherhead. Marlow defeated Hungerford Town 3-2 in the Berks and Bucks Cup in 2023.

Chertsey Town

Just over the border in Surrey are Chertey Town. They were winners of the Isthmian League South Central earning 100 points and only losing a solitary league fixture. Bracknell Town assistant manager Scott Rees spent the first half of the 23/24 season with the Curfews and they’ll surely provide strong opposition for Hungerford and Bracknell next season,

Havant & Waterlooville

The South Coast-based club were relegated from the National League South last season and are perhaps most famous for their FA Cup exploits where they lead at Anfield before losing 5-2 to Liverpool. The Robins have their own FA Cup memories against Havant & Waterlooville as they beat them 2-1 this season on their way to a first-round tie at Cambridge United.

Frome Town

As far as we’re aware the last time Bracknell Town faced Frome was in the 2009/10 season when Bracknell were in the Southern League South-West. It will be a battle of the nicknames when the two clubs meet in the upcoming season as both clubs play in red and are nicknamed “The Robins”!

Wimborne Town

We can’t find any history of Bracknell Town or Hungerford facing Wimborne. Bracknell Town were relagated from the Southern League in the same season Wimborne were promoted into it in 2010. Like Chertsey, Wimborne Town are a former winner of the FA Vase.

Gloucester City

A club that’s fallen on hard times in recent years and were actually in the National League North last season. The vagaries of the non-league pyramid mean they’ll go from travelling to Spennymoor and Scarborough one season to heading down the M5 to Plymouth and Dorset the next.

Hungerford Town faced Gloucester in the National League South a few years ago.

We don’t believe Gloucester City have played Bracknell in a competitive fixture before. However, the two teams did face off against one another in a pre-season friendly only last year.

Taunton Town

A third former FA Vase winner in the division for next season is Taunton Town. They’ve had issues with HMRC winding-up petitions and will hope they can stabilise in the Southern League. Hungerford Town and Taunton were both in National League South together two seasons ago. Bracknell Town faced Taunton in the FA Cup in the mid 90s and shared a division with the club when they were both in the Southern League in 2009/10 – meeting regularly on the final day of the season.
