It’s a busy day in the world of women’s football management as it’s confirmed Wales manager Jayne Ludlow is to step down after 6 years in charge of the Dragons.

The statement read, “The Football Association of Wales can confirm that Jayne Ludlow has left her post as the Cymru Women’s National Team Manager by mutual consent. Jayne has been at the helm since October 2014 and became the first manager to lead the side for more than 50 games. During that period Cymru reached the top 30 in the FIFA Women’s rankings for the first time and her side narrowly missed out on a place in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.”

Ludlow has strong links to Berkshire having been appointed manager and director of Reading Women in August 2013 for just 22 games, the team had a form of 14 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses. Reading finished in 3rd place at the end of the 13/14 season. Sadly, for Reading, Ludlow made tracks in October of 2013 which saw her depart the club after just one season as she was offered the opportunity to coach the Welsh national team. Whilst five of the Reading squad are Welsh nationals currently playing under Ludlow’s guidance. Royals captain Tash Harding, Jess Fishlock, who became the first Welsh player (female or male) to earn 100 caps for the national team, Rachel Rowe, Angharad James and Lily Woodham.

The final line of the statement read, “The FAW will now begin a thorough recruitment process for a new National Team Manager as Cymru will look to prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign, which will commence in September.”.

Ludlow remains amongst the rumoured candidates for the Team GB role as the team are set to compete in the Tokyo Olympics in the summer.
