Holyport need support for 400 mile FA Vase away day

The Division 1 East sides travel bill will wipe out their competition winnings.

Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East side Holyport have had a decent run in the FA Vase this season earning £1,275 following victories over Ardley United and Fleet Spurs.

That boost to the club coffers will be all but eaten up by travel arrangements following the First Round Proper draw on Monday which saw them pitted against South West Peninsula League side Ivybridge Town – a 400 mile round trip from Holyport.

Leaving aside the ludicrous nature of winning money in a competition that could be put toward improvement projects around a club that operates on a tight budget, and having to spend it on travel to continue in the competition where the prize on offer is £825 for a win and £275 for a defeat.. (sorry, rant over as they say).

The trip is, according to Holyport secretary Richard Tyrell, going to cost the club £1,100 in coach hire alone. In response the Hellenic club has setup a crowdfunding page to try and cover the cost with an initial target of £250 – something Football in Bracknell will be supporting.

Tyrell writes: “The club would welcome some much needed support from the local community and Businesses to help with the cost of the coach trip (£1,100 return). Any sponsorship help from £25 to the full £1,100 would be a very welcome by the club who operates on a tight budget to simply survive. Supporter’s tickets for a return trip with the lads are £20 (£18 concessions).”

All sponsors of £25 and more can chose a player to sponsor for the season.  This will see their name/business alongside the player in the match day programme for the duration of the season.
