Eversley & California will make club history on Saturday if they can find a way past Lymington Town in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round.
The club have entered the competition four times including this season since 2014/15 and on the first two occasions were given byes to the Second Qualifying Round.
Despite that advantage the Boars have never gone further – losing on both occasions and last season they were beaten 1-0 at Ringwood Town in the First Qualifying Round.
Manager Ellis Woods is pragmatic about the occasion though with a win earning the club a total of £1,275 over the two rounds they’ve competed in so far.
Woods said: “In the position we’re in, as materialistic as it sounds, the proceeds that we would receive for winning and progressing have a large implication on our financial budget.
“It’s sad but true, we’ve had a strange start to the season, but Saturday is literally like cup final day for us.”
It’s unlikely Lymington will take the tie lightly, being a division higher than Eversley, but the New Forest side have excitement and distraction of drawing Torquay United at home in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
Away day for Binfield
Binfield find themselves on the road to Eastleigh to face Wessex League side AFC Stoneham. The Moles are themselves a division higher than the ambitious Wessex League side and will go in as favourites.
Roger Herridge’s side have already navigated three rounds of the FA Cup but have a little way to go before beating their best ever performance in the tournament, a Fourth Round defeat to Tividale in 2011/12.
Herridge said recently in the Wokingham Paper that: “My Vase record is absolutely shocking.
“I don’t suppose there can be anyone out there with a worse record than me in the Vase to be honest so we’ll look to put that right.”
Holyport spurred on
It’s incredibly difficult to judge two sides in neighbouring competitions at this early stage in the season, but Holyport go in to their Vase tie on Saturday at home to Fleet Spurs as favourites, at least on league form.
Port under Derek Sweetman have four points from four games while Spurs have none from six, where Sweetman’s side will gain confidence though is in beating Hellenic League Premier Division sides twice already this season as well as a narrow FA Cup defeat to Brimscombe & Thrupp.
They beat Ardley United 4-1 to take their place in the Second Qualifying Round while for Fleet it was a 2-0 win at Cove, the side that sit below them at the bottom of the Combined Counties League Division 1 table by virtue of goal difference.
