Wokingham District schoolboys are national champions

Wokingham District Under 11’s are officially the best in England after winning the Premier League District Cup National Finals at Liverpool FC’s Academy this past weekend.

The schoolboys played three group games drawing 0-0 with both Bexley and then Sheffield before beating Liverpool 1-0.

Plymouth were beaten in the Semi-Finals following a 0-0 draw as the Wokingham schoolboys held their nerve to win 5-3 on penalties.

It was penalties again in the final against Newham after a goal-less match but the side from Berkshire won on sudden death spot-kicks.

The squad

The side is made up of year five and six pupils from Wokingham based primary schools and Team Coach Ben Winship was delighted with the character shown by his side saying “I’m so proud of Little Wokingham flying the flag on a national scale against some big cities.”

It’s been a tremendous 2017-18 season for the side who also won the Berkshire Cup, ESFA Jersey Festival, ESFA Premier League South, Surrey League and Southern Counties League.

There’s often debate amongst football fans over which team is best but after winning the Premier League District Cup National Finals no debate is needed – it’s official that Wokingham ARE the best.

Congratulations to everyone involved with the team from us all at Football in Bracknell.
