The Uhlsport Hellenic League have cancelled Saturday’s Bluefin Sport Supplementary Cup Final between Flackwell Heath and Burnham over ‘player registration irregularities’.
The league’s Management Executive cancelled the match – which was due to be played on Saturday 5th May at Ardley United, on Tuesday morning.
A statement released on the Hellenic League website said: “Certain irregularities have been brought to the notice of the UHL Management Executive in the past 24 Hours with regard to player registration irregularities. Consequently the staging of the Bluefin Sport Supplementary Cup, scheduled for Saturday 5 May, has been cancelled until such time as all matters have been fully investigated. A further release will be made once the matters have been resolved to the satisfaction of all concerned.”
There has at the time of writing been no apparent statement from either Burnham or Flackwell Heath since the announcement.
Burnham, currently managed by ex-Flackwell player Paul Shone finished bottom of the Hellenic League Premier Division this season but were in the final after beating Highworth Town 1-0 in the semi’s and the Heathens earned their spot after beating Ascot United 2-0.
A post by the Maidenhead Advertiser adds: “Neither Paul Shone or Marcus Richardson (Flackwell manager) were aware of any issues when discussing their prospects in the final this morning (Tuesday).”
