It’ll be a cold one on FA Vase Quarter Final weekend

If you are heading to Bracknell, Stockton or Melksham for the FA Vase Quarter Final weekend you are going to want to take an extra layer a thicker pair of socks.

The Met Office have warned of Sudden Stratospheric Warming which basically means we can all expect to be chilled to the bone on the terraces as the quarter finals kick off.

The phenomenon happens when air over the arctic suddenly warms up and pushes the freezing cold weather south across Britain for several weeks bringing sub zero temperatures and snow.

Get Reading reports: “It will turn increasingly chilly across Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell in the run-up to the beginning of the meteorological spring on Thursday, March 1, with the mercury starting to dip by the middle of this week when a sharp easterly wind sweeps across the country. The area could see lows of -3C and -4C towards the end of the week with the chill continuing over the weekend and into next week.”

For two of the Vase matches at least at the weekend that shouldn’t be a problem, both Bracknell Town and Stockton Town (hosting Windsor) have artificial surfaces but Melksham Town (hosting Thatcham) and Leighton Town (hosting 1874 Northwich) both have the more tradiotional grass pitch.

Long range Met Office forecasts:

  • Bracknell – High of 5 degrees, lows of -1
  • Leighton (Bedfordshire) – High of 5 degrees, lows of -2
  • Melksham (Wiltshire) – High of 6 degrees, lows of -1
  • Stockton (Teesside) – High of 5 degrees, lows of 0

On the plus side, the sun’s supposed to be out…
