With the new women’s football season about to start we thought we’d take a look at the clubs local to us and what they’ve been up to over the close season.
The big change has seen Bracknell Town shut down their ladies football teams with the majority of players and management splitting themselves between Binfield and Wokingham & Emmbrook.
Ascot United will be the highest placed representative and the FA Women’s Cup is upon us.
Ascot United
The Yellawomen start out in to the unknown this season following their elevation to the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division. They will be the highest placed club locally to us and have bolstered their squad with a couple of signings from Bracknell Town as well as keeping hold of top scorer Amy Woollard.
Ascot start their campaign on Sunday with an FA Women’s Cup tie at division rivals Newbury.

Binfield
The new Moles ladies side have been placed in the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division 2 East (bit of a mouthful) and will face a number of sides from across the border in Surrey including Woking and Abbey Rangers.
The majority of the Bracknell Town Reserves side is at Hill Farm Lane along with a few additions and several players stepping up from Binfield’s under 18s side.
There first fixture is over at Sandhurst Town on Sunday. Talking of which..

Sandhurst Town
The Fizzers had a strong 2016/17 campaign finishing fourth with the division’s top scorer – 32 goal Shellie Irvine, and will undoubtedly look to push on this season.
The clubs twitter account suggest they are looking for a goal keeper for the new season.

Wokingham & Emmbrook
As we’ve mentioned, the Sumas have a number of former Bracknell Town first teamers but have lost goalkeeper Lisa Philips and winger Sarah Davern to Ascot. They start life in SRWFL Division 1 North with games against Wargrave and Woodley United.
The Sumas campaign starts on 24th September at home to Oxford City Nomads.
Woodley United
A few more games at the end of last season and it might well have been the Kestrels in the Premier Division, alas United under Marc Surtees have kept hold of the majority of the squad that finished two points off third last season and will undoubtedly look to follow in Ascot’s footsteps this season in Division 1 North.
The Kestrels are off to Oxford City in the FA Women’s Cup on Sunday.
