Binfield Reserves are back defending their Ascot & Fielden Cup trophy this evening at Bracknell Town’s Larges Lane ground when they face Chalvey Sports Reserves.

Young manager Ellis Woods is well aware of the clubs history in the competition which dates back as far a 1939 and see’s them eager to retain a trophy they won courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Iver Heath last season (video highlights at the bottom of the article).

He’s been talking to us about what to expect from his side this evening.

Youth and physicality

Woods has had to pick his squad around a busy youth campaign – the Moles youth team is playing on Tuesday and Thursday this week either side of the cup final.

Even so plenty of the Hill Farm Lane youth production line will be on show, as well as the experienced Matt Davis at centre-back who has been invaluable in supporting the younger players coming through the clubs system.

Ones to watch

Ellis has picked out a couple of players to look out for this evening – all four are expected to start the game.

Luke May: My youth team captain and now playing week in, week out at centre back with Matt.

Lewis Wiggins: Has been incredibly consistent since he came back to the club in January.

Aaron Rowland: Another youth team product who has done really well since regaining fitness levels with us since the middle of the season.

Jamie McCarthy: Leads by example. You’ll see a bitey challenge or two from him tonight. Our little terrier in the middle.

Ethan Jerome: Suburban League’s top goalscorer with 17 goals.

Who are Chalvey Sports?

In short, East Berkshire Football League Division 2 Champions with a record of 15 wins and one defeat from their 16 league games.

Slough based Sports are two divisions below Iver Heath who the Moles beat 4-2 in the semi-finals. Chalvey’s first team have an outside chance of the Premier Division title with one game to go.

A good crowd

Alongside the usual mums and dads and family members, Binfield’s reserves have a good following and have been pushing the date and venue of the final since their semi-final victory so there should be a good crowd to roar on the Moles at Larges Lane this evening.
