Jon Underwood leaves ‘classy’ Bracknell Town departure message

Former Bracknell Town manager Jon Underwood has shared a ‘classy’ departure note on Social Media after his sudden exit from Bottom Meadow this week.

On Tuesday 1st April it was revealed in a statement released by chairman Andy Hunt that stewardship of the club would return to the SB Group and Kayne Steinborn-Busse.

The statement revealed a final takeover agreement had not been reached and that subsequently the entire board and management team were stepping down with immediate effect.

The SB Group quickly confirmed the switch and revealed former manager Bobby Wilkinson had been appointed first team manager for a second time.

Writing on Twitter, ‘Unders’ said: I wanted to say a few words at the end of a difficult week. I won’t comment on the situation which led to me leaving the club as that’s out of my hands & these things happen in football but I want to thank Andy Hunt who brought me in and was brilliant to work for as a Chairman.

Taking on a squad once the season has started is never easy but I worked tirelessly throughout the season and was very much looking forward to putting a squad together in the summer that I felt reflected me as a manager and the planning for that had already begun.

Obviously it’s extremely disappointing for me not to be able to manage the team in a Cup Final next week that we worked hard to get to, with some brilliant performances in the earlier rounds, but again that’s football.

I will take some time out now but my passion for a new managerial challenge remains as strong as ever and I will wait patiently and professionally for that next opportunity to present itself.

Among responses were Mark Donovan who simply said: “Class as ever Unders.”

Underwood of course was a former player and manager of Bracknell and he was an era defining co-manager of Slough Town with Neil Baker.
