A crowd of 238 watched Bracknell Town’s 4-0 FA Cup defeat to Southern League side Winchester City on Saturday – but it was the away following that left a fair bit to clean up for the Robins.
The City fans appeared to have a great time covering parts of the Larges Lane ground in WCFC stickers – including the road sign at the corner of the Larges Lane/A329 London Road junction.
We spoke to club chairman Kayne Steinborn-Busse who said that while it was taken in good humour, it took a number of volunteer man hours to remove them all from the ground. He said: “It was an absolute pain in the **** to clean our pitch side fence. It took most of Monday and we now need to spray it again as it’s very scratched up.”
Bracknell recently suffered a burst water main in the new bar which left the facility flooded, and a race against time to prepare for the tie in the first place – the bar decamping to a temporary area to cater for the match.
Following their victory, City were drawn away to Somerset side Paulton Rovers.
FiB comment: Having spent a good few years involved with local clubs, this sort of thing really isn’t on, takes time to put right and is a real shame especially when so much work has gone in to delivering a first rate ground. Agree or disagree? Let us know.
