Can Binfield emulate the Fielden Cup heroes of 39?

Binfield Reserves will walk out at Bracknell Town’s Larges Lane ground on Wednesday to face Chalvey Sports Reserves as Ascot & Fielden Cup Finalists looking to retain the trophy they won last season against Iver Heath.

Ellis Woods reserves beat Iver in the semi-final this season to secure a place in the final and the young Moles reserves boss is well aware the club have quite a history in the competition dating back as far as 1939 – as our man Steve Gabb has dug up below.

Steve has posted images from a copy of the 1939 Reading Mercury of a 2-0 final win over Wokingham Town at Vicarage Lane.

The passage of text also alludes to an earlier final defeat 11 years previous to the same oppostion.

If you know anyone in the photo, or have any information on the game or team of the period then please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you. Email us on footballinbracknell@gmail.com
