How a joke sent Priestwood Vale to the CONIFA World Cup

The Bracknell junior clubs youngsters ran out at Larges Lane on Sunday afternoon

The CONIFA World Cup has attracted a lot of interest as it winds it’s way to a conclusion after four fixtures at Bracknell Town’s Larges Lane ground.

The Robins hosted two games over the weekend and two fixtures on Tuesday, with Sunday’s fixture a particular highlight especially for the youngsters of local junior club Priestwood Vale.

Dressed in their eye catching yellow strip, the clubs young players were mascots for the fixture between Tibet and Karpatalya, but it all came about because of a joke on social media from the clubs founder Nathan Salah.

Nathan explains: “I had bought tickets already for my son and I so I posted a photo of my tickets when they came on Twitter.

“The organisers saw it and replied to the tweet. I just said jokingly “If you need any mascots I can sort them out for you” and they put me in touch with the mascot organiser who did the rest!

“I know it’s not the actual World Cup or anything but it was still quite an honour to be there on the pitch for the anthems.”

It certainly looked like a great experience for the youngsters who ran out with the teams. Karpatalya were 5-1 winners on the day in front of a noisy and atmospheric Tibetan crowd.

Karpatalya are now in the CONIFA World Cup semi finals after beating Cascadia on Tuesday and will play Székely Land in the last four at Carshalton Athletic on Thursday 7th June.
