Following Tuesday night’s fixtures Ascot United sit top of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division following their 4-2 win at Abingdon United.
The Yellamen’s place at the top of the table comes with a significant caveat – they have played three more games than second place Wantage Town but sitting in first place at any point in the season isn’t an achievement to be sniffed at.
Jamie Tompkins side led 4-0 at United through a Harry Laflin double, Dan Price and George Lock before the home side fought back but on current form and with the division’s leading scorer in 14 goal Nathan Minhas you have to believe the yellows will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.
Elsewhere Ardley United’s fortunes continue to improve after a 2-1 win at home to Flackwell Heath. The Heathens were expected in some quarters to challenge but have yet to click in to gear this season.
One of the fancied early season sides, Brimscombe & Thrupp have quietly been going about their business after an opening day defeat to Flackwell and now sit third after a 5-3 win over Shrivenham on Tuesday night.
And finally, the an FA Cup glamour tie with Torquay United was snatched from Lydney Town who lost 2-1 to Lymington Town in a replay in front of a crowd of 337 at the Recreation Ground on Tuesday night.
