Ex Bracknell Town striker Leslie Sackey has signed his first professional contract with EFL League 1 side Scunthorpe United.
Sackey was drafted in to the Robins 2014/15 Allied Counties South Division Championship winning side by then manager Paul Howe and made eight appearances scoring four goals.
The former Reading youngster went on to make three appearances for the Robins reserves and four for the first team toward the end of what was then a highest ever finish in the Hellenic Premier Division.
Sackey has though signed for Scunthorpe as a central defender after joining the Iron Academy in the summer of 2016 but can also play as a striker and according to a post on the clubs website has already been part of the first team – travelling to the recent game at Millwall.
Academy manager Tony Daws said: “It was a great eye-opener for him travelling to Millwall. He will have seen what it’s all about and hopefully it will have given him the appetite to want more. It just shows him what he’s here for, and what it’s all about.”
Sackey could be playing Championship football next season after the Iron qualified for the League 1 play offs.
We’d all like to wish Leslie the best of luck as he embarks on a professional football career.
