3 things to expect as Binfield FC host Lydney Town at Hill Farm Lane

Binfield are back in action on Saturday afternoon when Lydney Town AFC visit Hill Farm Lane. The Moles have a little bit of an availability crisis and a record at home to sides from Gloucestershire they’ll want to see the back of!

Here’s three things we’d expect to see at Hill Farm Lane come 3pm on a full day of Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League fixtures.

Bring your boots Rog..

We’re pretty sure Binfield boss Roger Herridge was joking earlier when he said ‘if I am named I am playing’ but it is certainly true there is a small injury/availability crisis at Hill Farm Lane.

We saw Jake White and Nick Bateman come off injured last weekend in the FA Cup defeat to North Greenford United while new signing Ross Seldon was injured in the warm up. Coupled with the usual summer holidays it’s certainly going to be a chance for a few younger players to shine in front of the senior team boss.

Still, if Herridge does bring the boots he won’t look out of place. He was easily the best player on the pitch for this rag tag bunch of five-a-siders a few years ago..

You’d be forgiven for forgetting Binfield won their opening game of the season, a 2-1 victory at Henley Town – we had in the first draft of this piece – but it feels like an eternity since the FA Cup exit last Saturday and Roger Herridge’s side will want to put that out of their minds.

They were undone by an excellent looping header against North Greenford on the day but it was the missed opportunities going forward that will surely soon turn into goals particularly if Luke Scope shines again as he did in the worlds oldest cup competition.

What of the Gloucestershire quirk?

Gloucestershire is the furthest any team in Berkshire will have to travel for a match this season. It won’t be a shock to learn that the likes of Longlevens, Lydney, Brimscombe and Tuffley Rovers have decent home records against sides from the Royal County but Binfield were the exception.

The Moles won three of their four league trips to the West Country last season but bizarrely lost three out of four reverse fixtures at Hill Farm Lane. It is a record Binfield will be eager to see the back of!
