Thursday night football is now a thing in step 5 football, specifically ties between Bracknell Town and Wokingham & Emmbrook who meet for the second Thursday in succession, this time in the quarter finals of the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Challenge Cup.
Bracknell ended six years without a win against their Berkshire neighbours last Thursday in the Hellenic Premier tie, but when it comes to the cups both sides have nothing to lose and a semi-final place to gain.
Pride, passion and nothing to lose
Bracknell require one point to confirm their status in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division for 2016/17 while Wokingham are already confirmed as relegated back to Division 1 East.
Duds has already had an in depth look at what both sides have left to play for this season, but as Robins boss Mark Tallentire has written in tonight’s programme notes “Now that survival is more or less achieved in the league, we can give the cups our full attention. Local derby against our close neighbours, it doesn’t get much better than that and with a semi final birth up for grabs I am sure everyone is in for a real treat.”
You can be sure neither side is going to give an inch this evening.
It’s going to be all about the forwards
Wokingham have kept one clean sheet in 2016 – the 5-0 win over Stokenchurch in the Supp Cup third round.
Similarly, Bracknell have kept two clean sheets this calendar year.
At the other end both sides have goals in them, whether it’s Adam Cornell for Bracknell or the long-serving Luke Scope for the Satsuma’s added to the fact both sides have goals in their midfields.
Basically, stand behind the goal.
A proper football atmosphere
The attendance of 130 at last weeks tie was the third highest at Larges Lane this season – all the more remarkable given that Binfield and Ascot United played on the same evening.
With local pride at stake this evening you can expect the figure to increase, especially as there isn’t a competing local fixture this evening.
Well unless you consider Borussia Dortmund v Liverpool competition.
We don’t.
Kick-off this evening is 7.45pm at Larges Lane, Bracknell. RG12 9AN.
